Trip to Palestine and Israel

Memories of my 1980s trip to Israel and what was then the Occupied Territories of Palestine washed over me as I listened to Jewish and Palestinian peace activists last night.

As I listened, I was reminded of the constant questioning I got from Palestinians as to how they can immigrate to the Philippines. Nor could I forget the unrelenting grilling I got from several soldiers at the Ben Gurion Airport as to where I went and what I did during my visit. Frankly that left a bitter taste in my mouth.

The situation was bad for the Palestinians then but it has clearly become worse judging from the video and the testimonies last night. I was buoyed, however, by the activists' passionate belief that peace can be achieved by non-violent means. I pray that it will be so.

So when it comes to voting on the overtures regarding divestment, the decision is easy. I support divestment. It is the right and prophetic thing to do.

  • Hi NYAPC Elder -
I'm writing an article about blogging for our Presbytery's e-newsletter and would like to add your name and blog address. Is this okay?

  • Hey Adlai: Good for you to blog for the GA. Technology has moved along since GA1999. I'll be reading about your goings-on at Birmingham (stay out of the Birmingham Jail). We haven't found the church for us here in Fargo, but are looking.
    Blessings,
